If you are in Cambridge on Friday you may witness a long line of people ambling along wearing white t-shirts and green gloves.
100 people from the gardening industry and beyond are set to take part in a sponsored 20 mile walk (and in some cases run) taking in Jesus College, the University Botanical Gardens and some of the river Cam - all in aid of Greenfingers Garden Re-Leaf Day.
The walk is helped by sponsorship from gardening companies such as local garden centre Scotsdales, starting at their Horningsea store and ending at Great Shelford. Others providing support for the event include: SBM Life Sciences, Hozelock, Briers, Kelkay, Outback, Garden Trade News, Cadix, Quinton Edwards and the Leisure and Outdoor Furniture Association (LOFA).
If you would like to support the walkers you can do so by donating via this link - www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/greenfingers/gardenreleafwalk2017 - or by textgiving: simply text GFGR17 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070.
What is Greenfingers Garden Re-Leaf Day?
Garden Re-Leaf Day is a national event set up to get people gardening and raise funds for Greenfingers Charity. Greenfingers is a small national charity dedicated to supporting children's hospices around the country. They do this by creating beautiful, well-designed outdoor spaces for children to enjoy with family, friends and siblings, whether through play and fun, or therapeutic rest and relaxation. To date Greenfingers Charity has created 51 inspiring gardens and outdoor spaces in hospices around the country, and has a further waiting list of hospices that need help in creating these important spaces.
How you can get involved
If you want to get involved yourself, you can show your support for Greenfingers by joining in on the #gluvies hashtag that will be popping up throughout the day on Twitter. Simply take a photo of yourself and your friends, family or work colleagues wearing green (or any other colour) gardening gloves, and post it on Twitter @gardenreleaf, with the hashtag #gluvies. Also, many garden centres around the country, including Scotsdales are hosting events and so there will be something going on at certain points of the day - check www.gardenreleaf.co.uk to whats happening in your area.
