Amazon's getting to work on hiring a team in Cambridge to develop driverless deliveries across the UK.
The service will be called 'Amazon Scout'.
The company says the 'scout' will roll along the pavement at walking pace, taking items to a customer's front door.
The new engineers would help build the software, which would teach it to navigate obstacles like recycling bins and even pets.
The team n Cambridge will work closely with the Amazon Scout research lab in Seattle, US, to develop on-system software to help Scout delivery devices safely and autonomously navigate around pedestrians, pets, and obstacles found in residential neighbourhoods such as recycling bins and sign posts.
