Apple trees threatened by Cambourne busway protected

Bramley Apple trees in Cambridge have been granted protection amid plans for a new busway.

An application has been approved, asking for a Tree Protection Order (TPO) to cover 12 trees in Coton Orchard, at risk from plans for a new busway between Cambourne and Cambridge.

The scheme has faced backlash over the years, particularly around building an off-road stretch through Coton Orchard, with some people arguing that an on-road option along Madingley Road should be pursued instead.

A public inquiry on the project is expected this year.
