Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery that took place in Newmarket.
It happened on Wednesday 3 January at some point between 6am and 6.09am on Valley Way.
A lone female, aged 21 years old was walking to work along Windsor Road and Manderston Road before going along Valley Way. As she walked along Valley Way she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her and turned her around to face him. The offender then held a knife to the face of the victim and demanded money. She told him that she did not have any, although he continued to make demands. The man then put the knife to the victim’s stomach and told her not to contact police. He then ran off along Valley Way in the direction of Rowley Drive. No property was taken from the victim.
The victim sustained a minor scratch to the face near her right eye from the knife and it also penetrated her clothing and has scratched her stomach.
The suspect is described as five foot five inches tall to five foot seven inches tall, is of medium build and was wearing a dark top with a hood up. He also wore a black bandana over his face and spoke with an eastern European accent.
Police would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity on Valley Way at about 6am on 3 January or anyone who was in the area of Valley Way, Windsor Road or Manderston Road between 5.45am and 6.15 on the same date. Police would also be interested in any dashcam footage from any vehicles in the area of Valley Way, Windsor Road or Manderston Road between 5.45am and 6.15 on the same date.
