Enforcement of Cambridge's latest bus lane cameras will begin this week in Worts Causeway.
Drivers will receive warning notices for the first two weeks before fines are issued from 30th March.
Restricted access at Worts Causeway has been in place for almost 20 years. The new ‘bus gates’ will see the existing access restrictions for unauthorised traffic enforced by using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
The scheme is restricting access for vehicles except buses, taxis and emergency services between 7.30am and 9.30am Monday to Friday, to give priority to buses during morning peak times. If vehicles are caught travelling in the area during these times, they will be fined.
Bus gates are already in operation on five other sites in Cambridge City Centre on Station Road, Bridge Street, Emmanuel Road, Regent Street / St Andrews Street and Silver Street.
Cllr Mathew Shuter, Highways & Infrastructure Committee chairman at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: "Any unauthorised vehicles driving through the site during the operating times will receive a warning notice during the first two weeks, this is to allow drivers to get used to the new enforcement cameras, before official penalty notices start being issued."
Additional advance warning signs will be added to give extra notice to drivers on the approach to Worts Causeway.
