Cambridge Arts Theatre Gets £1m From Government

The city venue is one of 588 recipients to receive a share of £76 million of Government funding for arts organisations.

The Culture Recovery Fund is aimed at helping organisations in England which have suffered badly during the coronavirus pandemic.

Cambridge Arts Theatre Trust will get £985,000; other organisations include Zippos Circus, Somerset House and the Military Wives Choir which will all receive a share of £76 million of Government funding for arts organisations.

Cambridge-based Britten Sinfonia is to receive £197,810 to run a range of activities, including a programme of 90 socially distanced and accessible concerts and learning events across remote and rural areas in the East of England.

Britten Sinfonia is a flexible ensemble with artistic residencies in Cambridge, Norwich, Saffron Walden alongside London’s Barbican. It is one of only seven non-BBC orchestras to make a Proms appearance. Meurig Bowen, Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Britten Sinfonia, said, "This award helps us to bring our audiences and our musicians back together again in the way that we, and they, have all longed for – sharing the experience of live, world class music with each other."
