Cambridge Water is aiming to conserve two million litres of water a day.
The campaign "Yes We Cam" builds on the success of the "Can for the Cam" scheme last summer, which saw Cambridge gardeners save 940,000 litres every day of the summer by swapping the hose for the watering can.
This new campaign encourages water conservation by engaging residents to save water and adopt more sustainable practice, to not only save water, but to protect our precious and unique local chalk streams.
Natalie Akroyd, Director of Quality and Environment at Cambridge Water, spoke to Star Radio:
Cambridge is home to many of the world's rare chalk streams, including the River Cam, and 100% of Cambridge's drinking water is sourced from the same underground sources that feed these chalk streams.
Cambridge Water is hoping that, by working together, we can all make an enormous difference to these local streams.
Their water saving tips include taking shorter showers, running the washing machine full in eco mode, turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, and using a bowl when doing the washing up.
The company has also pledged to fix any leaky loos in customer households this summer for free.
