Events have taken place across Cambridgeshire to mark 80 years since D-Day.
On Thursday 6 June 2024, sites across Cambridgeshire came together to commemorate 80 years since the D-Day landings in 1944.
Former Mayor of Cambridge Russ McPherson played "Sleep, Dearie, Sleep" on the bagpipes from a balcony of the Cambridge Guildhall.
In Alconbury Weald, dignitaries met to watch a flag raised over New Shire Hall.
In Huntingdon, a special floral display depicting a military landing craft [pictured] was unveiled before the beacon lighting.
Cambridgeshire County Council Chair Sebastian Kindersley:
"We paused to remember, reflect, and honour the memory of those who gave their lives to defend our democratic freedoms.
"The D-Day landings were the largest seaborne invasion in history.
"Along with the associated airborne operations, it marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe.
"We remember the sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.
"We pay tribute to the special contribution of families and of the emergency services and we acknowledge innocent civilians who have lost their lives in conflict and acts of terrorism."
