Popular events cancelled due to coronavirus.
Cambridge City Council said the iconic event at Cherry Hinton Hall has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“The safety of festival-goers, as well as the artists, staff and crew who make the Cambridge Folk Festival possible, is our top priority.
“The situation around coronavirus has been changing rapidly in the past days and weeks and, unfortunately, under the circumstances it is becoming too difficult to plan, prepare and deliver an event on the scale of the Folk Festival whilst keeping everyone safe.”
People who have already booked tickets can hold onto them for the 2021 festival or will be able to obtain a refund. Box Office staff will be in touch shortly.
At the same time the popular Big Weekend on Parker’s Piece has also been shelved for 2020.
In a statement, Cambridge City Council said, “We know this will be a blow not only for our Cambridge community, but for the artists, community performers, contractors and crew who make the Big Weekend possible. Performers and many others working in the live music sector are under tremendous pressure, especially as many have already seen gigs and tours cancelled or postponed. Please rest assured this decision has not been taken lightly.”
A spokesman added both events would return in 2021.
