A drunk driver who crashed into another vehicle in Stetchworth has been banned.

A member of the public called police on 27 April after he was involved in a collision with the vehicle on London Road.

35-year-old Charlie Walker of no fixed address pulled into the path of the other driver and admitted he'd been driving his van whilst drunk.

Officers breathalysed Walker at the scene where he blew 176. That's five times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100ml of breath.

In custody he provided an evidential sample of 142 microgrammes.

Walker's been given a 12 month community order after pleading guilty to drink driving. He's been disqualified from driving for three years and must wear a 90 day Alcohol Abstinence and Monitoring Requirement tag.

PC Joe Braddick from Cambridgeshire Police:

“Drink driving is a serious offence which puts the lives of other road users at serious risk of harm. Both drivers were lucky to walk away from the collision with no injuries.”

Cambridgeshire Police are urging anyone who spots a suspected drink or drug driver to call their confidential, 24 hour hotline on 0800 032 0845.
