East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) have today served an interim injunction on a plot of land in Kirtling, Cambridgeshire to ensure that it cannot be used for means outside of the planning permission which was initially granted.
The land is currently only able to be used for equine purposes. The injunction means that the erection or siting of any additional buildings, siting of caravans/mobile homes, laying hardstanding/piping or excavating/importing material is now a criminal offence.
The injunction was served on the landowner on Wednesday 13th September 2017, as it is believed beyond reasonable doubt that the owner of the site had intentions to use the land for purposes other than those permitted.
Jo Brooks, Director of Operations for East Cambridgeshire District Council, said:
“We have worked hard to challenge the reputation the sector has for hindering rather than helping people with applications for development. In our District there is no barrier to building for people who follow the rules and comply with planning policy. We are proud of being a facilitator for growth and will continue to be so.
“However, our firm but fair policy means that we will take swift action against people who do not follow due process. Those who flout regulations or fail to follow the rules and planning policy are not treated leniently. After all, we have a duty to enforce where it is considered reasonable and proportionate and uphold national planning regulations and guidance.”
Rebecca Saunt, ECDC Planning manager added: “The process of applying for planning permission is not difficult or expensive – in fact, we have worked hard to make it extremely easy and efficient. There is no excuse therefore, not to follow procedures.”
East Cambridgeshire District Council has one of the most efficient planning services in the UK.
From 01 September 2016 to 31 August 2017 82% of applications have been given approval.
