Firefighters tackle Cambridge city centre blaze

Photo: Fire crews called to University Arms in Cambridge

Firefighters attended an incident at the University Arms in Cambridge on Thursday.

At around lunchtime on Thursday 24 October 2024, emergency services were called to the blaze on Regent Street.

More than 30 firefighters were called to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading, and the road was shut for around three hours.

The hotel said that a problem with the electrics in a lift caused smoke, which meant the hotel had to be evacuated and two people had to be assessed by the ambulance service.
