First World War grenade found in Yaxley

The grenade was detonated safely after it was found at the bottom of a garden.

A grenade from the First World War has been destroyed in a controlled explosion.

It was discovered in a garden in Yaxley on the outskirts of Peterborough.

A member of the public contacted Cambridgeshire Police on Sunday 19 November 2023.

He suspected the grenade was still live.

It has now been destroyed by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team.

They carried out a controlled explosion in a nearby field with officers from Cambridgeshire Police monitoring the scene.
