A £400,000 cash boost could improve provision for customers.
Better CCTV, dedicated cargo bike spaces and improved parking for users with mobility issues are just some of the plans to improve safety at Cambridge railway station.
Greater Anglia is working with Cambridge City Council and Cambridgeshire Police along with other partners to improve customers experiences at the station.
The full list includes:
- CCTV upgrade, linking it to Greater Anglia’s new system which records much higher definition images, is more reliable and allows for remote viewing. Phase two of the CCTV upgrade will see the cameras linked to the Cambridge City public camera network that can be monitored by Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
- Greater Anglia will explore the opportunity to install access controls in consultation with Cycle Point customers. This would involve customers having the option to pay for secured parking, which would be accessed using a Smartcard.
- Improvements to signage to help customers find their way around the facility and find and use the secure cycle parking.
- Accessibility improvements for those using cargo bikes, tricycles or adapted bikes, as well as those with disabilities, carrying small children in bike seats or who do not have the strength to push bikes up a slope or cannot use the ramps. This will include increasing the number of accessible spaces on the ground floor and ensuring adequate directional signage to this area.
The train operator is now encouraging people to complete a short survey to indicate their level of support for the secure access parking improvements.
The survey can be accessed here and closes at midnight on Friday 2 August.
