The second phase of work to improve safety along the A1303, between the A14 overbridge and junction 35 roundabout, is getting underway.
The second phase of work, costing more than £1.4 million, comes after the Road Safety Foundation highlighted the A1303 as one of the 50 highest risk local ‘A’ roads in the country, based on collision data between 2012 and 2014.
As part of the second phase of work, 43 trees will be removed along the route, installing safety barriers and reducing the speed limit on the western section from 50mph to 40mph.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of March. The majority of the work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm. Some overnight road closures may be required to complete the road markings.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s Chair of the Highways and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Mathew Shuter said: “As part of the work we will be replacing the trees that have been removed to make these vital safety improvements. The new trees will help enhance the area and we have been working closely with local parish councils to agree the locations for the new trees.
