A man has been jailed for an armed robbery at a petrol station in Newmarket.
David McGowan, from Tutte Gardens in Newmarket, was sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday 16 April 2024.
Police were called to the incident on the evening of Tuesday 12 December 2023, shortly after a McGowan had walked out of the Shell petrol station on the High Street.
Wearing a black ski mask, the 49-year-old held staff at gunpoint and knifepoint and stole cash and cigarettes.
McGowan was arrested and charged on 28 December 2023.
Detective Constable Carly Laflin:
"I can only imagine the impact this incident had on the staff member at the petrol station that evening and has continued to have on them since.
"McGowan clearly had no respect for other people and only cared for his own financial gain.
"He now has time in prison to think about his actions and hopefully consider the harm he has caused."
