A man who "suddenly and inexplicably" stabbed a man after a pub trip has been jailed.
Stevie French, 49, was drinking in a pub in Littleport with his victim in August 2023, before the pair headed back to French’s house.
Police said French "suddenly and inexplicably" brandished a knife, demanding money, before he thrust the knife towards his victim, causing a deep wound to his head and lacerations to his hands.
The victim managed to escape and fled the scene to his ex-partner’s house, where he arrived in a "critical condition" and an ambulance was called.
Detective Constable Billie Baker, Cambridgeshire Police:
"It is clear French is a violent man with the potential to turn from friend to foe in the blink of an eye without any regard for who he hurts or the consequences of his actions.
He turned on the victim suddenly and inexplicably with a terrifying level of violence."
On Friday 6 September 2024, French, of Borehamwood in Hertfordshire, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison, and was also handed a five-year restraining preventing him from entering Littleport.
