New community hub in Trumpington opens its doors on 4 April

THE CLAY Farm Centre opens its doors to the public on Wednesday 4 April at 9am.

The new community building in Hobson Square, Trumpington, will be managed by Cambridge City Council in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council, Trumpington Medical Practice and BPHA housing association.

It has been built in the heart of the new southern fringe development in Trumpington to serve the existing and new communities in the area.

The Clay Farm Centre will provide new facilities and services to the community including a library, café, and community centre with rooms for hire, including a large hall with a capacity of up to 250 people.

The centre also includes a medical centre on the second floor, which will be opening later in the spring, and two upper floors consisting of 20 affordable rent, shared ownership flats.

There will be a programme of events and activities to mark the opening, including a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, craft sessions, and children’s rhyme time sessions.

The library at the centre will be open daily from 4 April, and residents will be able to join the library from that date. The café, provided by the company ‘Eat Lunch’, will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 April.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities at Cambridge City Council, said: “We are really excited the Clay Farm Centre is now ready to open its doors to the local community so residents can make the most of the fantastic, energy efficient and modern facilities on offer.

I know that the staff team have been working very hard in the lead up to the opening, informing the community of what the centre offers and the many positive opportunities it will bring through local events, social gatherings, or simply as a place to unwind and relax.
