Northern Lights brighten Cambridge skies

The Northern Lights have been spotted across Cambridgeshire.

On Friday 10 May 2024, the Northern Lights lit up the night sky with people across Cambridgeshire getting a rare glimpse of the phenomenon.

Also known as Aurora Borealis, it occurs when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere around the magnetic poles.

Visibility was even better than expected over Cambridgeshire because of an "extreme" geomagnetic storm.

You can see lots of photos of the Northern Lights taken by Star Radio listeners here.
