Fejiri Okenabirhie has signed a new contract with Cambridge United, extending his stay with the club into 2024.
The striker has put pen to paper on a one-year deal after making 21 appearances for the U’s last season and quickly establishing himself as a fan's favourite.
He arrived from Doncaster Rovers last summer and could be given more opportunities in 2023-24 after Joe Ironside and Sam Smith left the club.
Speaking about his renewed deal, Okenabirhie said:
“I really enjoyed being part of the Club. As a player I feel like there is more to come from me and that’s part of my reason for me staying – to show everyone connected with the Club what I am about.
“I definitely feel like my body is in the right place now to have a strong year and get back to my best.”
Mark Bonner, Cambridge United Manager added:
“I am excited by Fejiri’s potential to help us and I am delighted he will stay with us,”
“We are both motivated for the season ahead and his determination to hit the heights of previous seasons will drive him on. This hunger is key to our team this season and he is also an excellent character who displays the values we love.
“After some really challenging times, Fejiri returned to his best physical condition for some time by the end of the season, and we are confident with a strong off season and pre-season that he has a big part to play in the team.
“Without doubt he has all the technical qualities to score goals and create chances, along with providing excellent link play. His physicality brings pace and power to attacks, which will enable us to press from the front and give us explosive runs beyond defensive lines.
“His versatility to play in any of the four forward positions will certainly benefit us.”
Season ticket holders are being encouraged to renew ahead of the new season before June 18th, before General Sale begins six days later.
Cambridge United have announced the first of their pre-season friendlies, with newly promoted Ipswich town amongst the visitors this summer.
