“We are delighted to be awarded this award and recognition for being one of the key attractions in Ely. The Historic House, once the home to the Cromwell family prides itself on telling the story of Oliver’s journey, through family life, politics, power, and religion which led him to be one of the greatest leaders and military men of all time. We have specific tours for families, groups, and adults available, with a tourist information desk for visitors, and a delightful souvenir and local craft shop.”
Cromwell rose to power during the English civil war, to become 'Lord Protector of the Commonwealth' during England's brief period as a republic in the mid 17th Century. Oliver and his family lived in the house from 1636 to 1647; his only other remaining residence is Hampton Court.
