CUSTOMERS will soon be able to pay by debit and credit card, as well as by phone, at all four of Cambridge City Council’s pay and display car parks.
In March, two payment machines containing £163 in cash were stolen from the council’s Castle Hill and Gwydir Street pay and display car parks.
The council removed cash payment facilities from the remaining payment machines on 17 March and since then anyone using the car parks has been able to do so using the pay by phone system, RingGo.
Since the thefts, the council has monitored use of the pay and display car parks and the use of RingGo.
In order to give customers the convenience of an additional payment option and reduce the risk of similar crimes taking place in future, the council will introduce the option to pay by debit or credit card at all four car parks.
Cash payments will not be reinstated.
Card payments are available now at Castle Hill and Adam and Eve Street car parks and it is expected that card payments will be available at Riverside and Gwydir Street car parks from June.
In the meantime, customers can continue to use Riverside and Gwydir Street car parks by registering with RingGo.
