Plans for huge solar farm near Huntingdon blocked

Photo: 65,000 solar panels were in the plans

Sixty-five-thousand panels would have been built across one-hundred acres.

Plans had come forward to create a new solar farm on land north east of Bates Lodge on Peterborough Road in Haddon.

Wessex Solar Energy said the new plant would generate enough renewable energy to power 7,713 homes a year.

The plans had been met with backlash from locals, with over 100 objections being lodged by members of the public.

Councillors had voted to refuse the planning application at the end of 2023, but the proposals were brought back following a change to the National Planning Policy Framework.

When the decision was put to a vote again, 8 councillors voted to still refuse the application with 1 councillor voting against this.
