Plans to demolish a former cinema in Cambridge city centre have been refused.
The Central Cinema on Hobsons Street opened in the 1920s, it was later used as a bingo hall, and has been empty since closure in 2009.
Developers had proposed to demolish the old cinema, as well as neighbouring buildings in order to build new offices and a community space.
Cambridge City Council said the demolition of the "iconic 1930s Egyptian art deco style" building would result in "significant harm" to the area.
