An abandoned sewage works in Hauxton will be transformed into a life science campus.
Outline plans to build office and laboratory buildings off Cambridge Road have been approved.
Developers have said the site will create 1000 new jobs and provide wider benefits to the village community.
The land is considered to be a highly contaminated site and locals say it looks "post apocalyptic".
Bridgemere Land Ltd have said they will clean up the site before construction.
The former sewage works on Cambridge Road in Hauxton closed in 2005.
Some of the old structures, including silos and tanks, were left behind and have deteriorated over the years.
They will be demolished and replaced with six new office and laboratory buildings.
Other facilities will include a gym, cafe, and changing facilities, which will be open to the public to use.
The development also includes plans for 330 car parking spaces and 306 cycle parking spaces.
Alongside the campus, a country park is proposed to be created around the north and west sides.
More detailed plans will need to be submitted to South Cambridgeshire District Council before it can be built.
