PlayDaze offers free fun for children and families this summer

A stimulating four week programme of free outdoor activities for school aged children has been organised to banish any thoughts of boredom this summer.

As the school year heads towards its conclusion, Cambridge City Council’s Children and Young People’s Participation Service (ChYpPS) has once again organised a host of events for children as part of its summer holiday PlayDaze programme.

This year’s activities will focus on making the most of recycled materials and there will be plenty of opportunities for children to get involved in arts and crafts, sports, games and more.

All the activities will take place in Cambridge parks and open spaces with the fun kicking off on Monday 30 July, taking place every weekday until Friday 24 August.

The PlayDaze programme also includes regular events taking place in many different neighbourhoods, as well as some bigger festival-style events in some of Cambridge’s central parks on Wednesday afternoons.

Big Wednesdays on 1, 8, 15 and 22 August will feature music, arts, face painting, sport and entertainment for the whole family.

Booking is not required for most activities although some, including computer coding, family forest fun and fishing lessons do need to be booked in advance. Contact the ChYpPS team after 23 July.

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Whether your child is into crafts, arts or music or is a budding sportsperson, PlayDaze really does offer something for everyone.

“The programme of events is a real highlight of the summer and gives children and their families every reason to get active in the great outdoors. With something different to do every day, there really is no need to be bored during the holidays.”

ChYpPS have worked with University of Cambridge Museums, Cambridge Fish Preservation and Angling Society and Amey to put on the programme.
