Residents ready to "fight" for Cambridge estate

Campaigners have vowed to fight plans to redevelop Ekin Road in Cambridge.

Cambridge City Council is considering redeveloping the Ekin Road flats and houses to build new council housing.

The authority said it was trying to provide homes for more than 2,000 people on its housing waiting list.

But, the Save Ekin Road Group said residents will "never surrender" their homes.

A report last month assessed three options for the estate: refurbishment, partial demolition and full demolition.

It recommended that full demolition offered the "greatest opportunity" to provide "long-term benefits".

The city council is running a consultation on the future of Ekin Road and a final decision is yet to be made.
