Crews from Dogsthorpe, Wisbech and March were called to rescue an elderly man in March Road who was trapped in his car after his vehicle left the road and ended upside down in a water-filled ditch.
Firefighters wearing water suits entered the water, which was about three foot deep, and secured the vehicle before extricating the casualty from the car. He was then placed on an inflatable water sled which was brought up to the roadside using two nine-metre ladders.
The man was not injured but was assessed and treated by paramedics at the scene.
Crews returned to their station by 5.34pm.
