Plans have been set out for a 7-acre solar farm at Bassingbourn Barracks.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said it could help to generate 35 per cent of the military base's annual energy demand.
The aim is to reduce the amount of power it takes from the National Grid, and improve its energy resilience.
The MoD explained that over the solar farm’s 30-year lifetime, it would save the same amount of carbon emissions as taking 650 cars off the road.
The application will be considered by South Cambridgeshire District Council.
