Follow the bloody trail of revenge to Sweeney Todd’s Fleet Street barber shop for a theatrical treat to die for! With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, Sweeney Todd has shocked, awed and thrilled audiences around the world.
This tale of love, treachery and grisly doings explores the legend of the unjustly exiled Todd, who returns to 19th century London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him for a crime he didn’t commit, and then ravaged Todd’s young wife. Todd’s bloody revenge becomes a dish served hot by Mrs Lovett, the entrepreneurial and lovestruck proprietress of a pie shop, to queues of hungry Londoners who suddenly find her wares very tasty indeed. And the carnage has just begun! Cambridge Operatic Society (CaOS) are a Cambridge based amateur musical theatre company established in 1910. CaOS have staged an annual production on the Cambridge Arts Theatre stage for many years, recent examples include Annie, Sister Act, Oklahoma!, South Pacific and Oliver!
