Countryside, the developers of the multi-award winning Great Kneighton development in Trumpington, recently presented Trumpington Community College with a selection of brand new sports kits for their students.
Trumpington Community College opened its doors for the first time at Great Kneighton in September 2016. This brand new state of the art secondary school has extensive sports facilities which are shared by the whole community out of school hours. Currently catering for Year 7 and Year 8 students, in September 2017 the College will welcome their next cohort eventually leading to full capacity of 750 students in 2020.
The new branded sports kit will enable the students and Sport Leaders to look smart and professional when they represent their college in varied sporting activities and fixtures against other schools including; football, handball and netball.
Andrew Carrington, Managing Director, Strategic Land at Countryside, comments, “Great Kneighton has been such an exciting project for us and to see many of the planned new homes, and the College, now occupied with residents and students that are engaged with community life has been very rewarding. We are delighted to offer sponsorship by way of providing new branded sports kits to the college, and hope it will give a boost to the students and teachers.”
Logan, Lead Teacher of Sport at Trumpington Community College added, “We are thrilled with Countryside’s generous donation of sports kit. The football teams will have to wait until next season to try out their new kit but the Sport Leaders have already worn their kit during the local primary schools’ sports days (Fawcett and Trumpington Meadows). The handball squad are also really looking forward to wearing their new kit at the district handball event at the end of June. The College currently hosts Cambridge Handball Club and it is hoped that a number of our students will eventually graduate to the senior teams. Taking part in sports events and coaching in fabulous new kit is going to make such a difference to all involved.”
John Jones, Head of School said that Trumpington Community College was overwhelmed by Countryside’s generosity and sponsorship and it was clear that Countryside were making every effort to support the Colleges key role within the local community.
The college which is easily accessible to the whole community at Great Kneighton, is the first new 11-16 secondary school in Cambridge for over 50 years. Developer Countryside provided the land for the new college in Trumpington, as well as making a multi-million pound contribution to primary and secondary education, as part of the creation of the new community-led development situated to the south of Cambridge city centre.
The sports facilities at the college include floodlit outdoor pitches, a sports building with gymnasium, fitness studios and performance hall. Not only are these facilities used by the college but they have been embraced by the whole community who have access to booking courts and pitches out of school hours.
