Unite, the UK’s largest union, has confirmed that it is committed to reducing as many job losses as possible at Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group.
The Cambridge based company which employs 1,900 workers and is the city’s largest employer announced yesterday (Wednesday 27 September) that they are consulting on making 300 workers redundant.
Unite will now enter into negotiations to reduce the overall number of redundancies and the union will seek to ensure that any job losses are achieved through voluntary rather compulsory redundancies.
Unite regional officer Richard Peters, said: “Following this very disappointing news I will be seeking urgent negotiations with Marshalls in order to seek to reduce the number of redundancies being made.
“Unite is fully committed to reducing the number of compulsory redundancies, if job losses are indeed necessary.
“If workers are made redundant Unite will provide as much assistance as possible in order to help members who have been affected find suitable new employment.”
