Light Up The Night For Cancer Research UK

Grab something bright and colourful and join Star Radio for Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk on Saturday 19th October.

Entries are now open for this illuminating stroll through Cambridge’s historic city centre, which starts in the scenic setting of Queen’s Lawn at 6:15pm. Thousands of people will join together on a fun and inspirational parade of light that, stride by stride, will help beat cancer.

Many of the funds raised will support the Cancer Research UK Institute in Cambridge with its pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Here in the city, the charity's working to make treatments more effective while unpicking the biological processes that lead to cancer. Efforts also continue to improve breast cancer screening.

The 10k route takes in several landmarks, including King’s and Clare colleges, the Botanic Garden and the Fitzwilliam Museum, finishing at the Corn Exchange.

You can even choose to raise money for the area of life-saving research closest to your heart. This could include prostate cancer, breast cancer, bowel cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, brain tumours, children’s cancers and leukaemia. Or you can simply give your backing to Cancer Research UK’s overall work.

Star Radio’s Josh Lovatt and Andy Lake will be there to cheer you over the start line, keep you entertained along the route and to congratulate you at the finish.

With every step – from The Eagle to Cambridge University Library and beyond – you’ll be supporting the work of scientists who’re relentlessly striving towards new discoveries and breakthroughs. So, what are you waiting for? Sign up now and bring your friends and family for a night to remember!

Don’t want to walk? Why not volunteer instead?

You could also shine a light for those affected by cancer by volunteering on the night. From helping to set up the Shine Night Walk course to guiding participants around the city, there are lots of opportunities to get involved, meet new people and learn new skills.
